Cloud Database

Based on cloud database’s naming convention, inference can be made that it is a type of database that generally runs on the cloud platform. Both cloud database and cloud computing functions on similar concept base and is considered to be a great leap in technology. Both of them are believed to be a new paradigm shift towards on-demand resources and equipment minimization or space constraint free. On-demand resources are usually referred to as “pay-per use” services hosted by qualified vendors as a form of managed service. The cloud model comprises of four different type of infrastructure mainly known as private cloud, community cloud, public cloud and hybrid cloud. Private cloud is a form of infrastructure which is leased and operational to just a sole proprietor/organization. Community cloud is the kind of infrastructure which is shared by several organizations with shared/similar interest or concerns. Public cloud as its name suggests, refers to cloud services provided to the public by a specialized vendor or organization and is obtainable via internet access. A public cloud increases competency and support new systems rapidly. Hybrid cloud comprises of both a public and private cloud. It provides benefits of both clouds. The clouds are inter-connected and it allows data to be shifted from one deployed system to another. Hybrid cloud allows both users and provider better control with enhanced security and resiliency. (The 4 Primary, 2012)Cloud database is able to run without compromising functionality, performance and availability. The main differences between the old concept of database and cloud database is that the older concept requires existence of dedicated on premise resources like database server and is usually self-managed by an internal database administrator whereas for cloud database, it is fully functional without the prerequisite of a database server or administrator because all resources are cloud hosted and managed by specialized vendor…
